working

My studio is back to being a work space.  The painting on the end wall is titled "Party Cake".    I'm working on two canvases of people on the beach. A small canvas is sitting by the paint tray. I did it to work-out some of the details before going onto the large surface.

natural light-indoor light

My new first floor studio here in Florida has poor natural light. The indoor lighting changes the colors on the paintings. Galleries, homes, museums all use indoor light so this change is probably a good move. The blues are especially bright. I've started reworking several canvases.

painting outdoors

It's been a wonderful summer painting outdoors in the community garden. The first weeks I painted on paper. The next month I worked on panel. Finally, I painted on canvas.

We head south at the end of the month. I've been framing + bringing my inventory up to date. I'd rather be out painting!

This summer we have a 20' space in the community garden at Adams Farm, Walpole, MA. My oldest grand daughter and I are hard at work painting.

"Ship Builder"

When a canvas sits around the studio it's easy to pick it up and start making changes. I changed this image of Gus working on a boat from a dominant yellow to blue. (It's been cold and raining.. ) acrylic on panel 16" x 20"

music birds

Old sheet music makes a fun back drop for these small images.

"Common Yellowthroat"

Acrylic 44" x 48"   This is my final painting for this spring. We sometimes see these Common Yellowthroat warblers in our dune grass.

Painted Buntings

acrylic 26" x 30" The canvas is almost done. There a few refinements I want to make when we get back to Florida in October. We're packing for the drive to Massachusetts.

display

Some of my new pottery is displayed on our living room shelves. The bases on the middle shelf are hand built. I made them for my husband to display his bonsai. The very small pots are for "mame", small companion plants for larger bonsai trees.

shade cloth

The shade cloth is tied onto the railing.  It makes a big difference in keeping the studio cool. There's blinding glare off the ocean for an hour or so in the mornings this time of year.

April ghost crab

Just unloaded the crab bowl this morning. This is the last glaze firing of the kiln until fall. Back to canvas. The construction of a new house outside my studio isn't as disturbing now that their work is mostly indoors.

"Spoonbills"

acrylic 44" x 50" This photo was taken before the final touch of a yellowish glaze over the pink. The pink was too harsh. The wash pushed the pink toward a softer salmon tone.

"Door to the Pink House"

acrylic 26" x 30" This painting seemed complete when I added the watering can. This is our bonsai garden area. First our house was yellow, then pink, and after our 25 years here, the house is now painted orange.

This is a Big painting.
48" x 54" acrylic   The painting is finally finished with the added figure walking off to the right.  Usually a big painting takes me about a month.  I've worked on this one off and on for two years.
